Exeter Independent Study
"Independent study (California Education Code [EC] sections 51744–51749.6 ) is provided as an alternative instructional strategy. Independent study pupils work independently, according to a written agreement and under the general supervision of a credentialed teacher or teachers. While independent study pupils follow the district-adopted curriculum and meet the district graduation requirements, independent study offers flexibility to meet individual pupil's needs, interests, and styles of learning."
Exeter Unified School District offers an independent study program for students, grades 7-12, through an online based program called SUBJECT and is aligned with EUSD's grade level standards. All independent study students are expected to attend weekly zoom meetings with a certificated instructor.
Independent study students are expected to work independently and therefore requires basic academic skills, a high level of commitment from both parents and students, be self motivated and self directed, as well as skilled in time management and organization to be successful in this alternative form of education.
Parents who seek to enroll their students in our independent study program MUST meet with their student's respective school's counselor or learning director. Once you have met with the counselor or learning director, you will be given access to the password protected EIS online application link. Once submitted, the application will be reviewed by Kaweah's administration and will make contact with parent/student once a decision has been made.
If your student is NEW to EUSD, please contact Kaweah High School at (559)592-4420 to gain access to the EIS online application link. Students residing outside EUSD's boundaries MUST obtain interdistrict approval from both your residing district and EUSD.
